I beg to acknowledge your letter of the 18th instant, enforcing certain Service Regulations. A copy of the despatch from Earl Grey to Sir John Davies in 1847-8, now the subject of my suspension from Office, can only be supplied under special authority.
As mentioned in my letter of the 16th, the despatch in question was produced at the Supreme Court in 1839; and as the Special Authority in that case will have emanated from the Executive Council, I assume that it is in order to request you to submit to His Excellency the Governor in Council the following further statement regarding the case, exhibitory as it is of the ...
